Welcome to Student Rotations at Summit
At Summit Brain, Spine & Orthopedics, we believe in the power of hands-on experience and mentorship to prepare the next generation of healthcare providers. We’re proud to offer clinical rotations for medical students interested in neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery. During your rotation, you’ll have the opportunity to shadow our team through surgical settings across Utah County. We also offer pre-med students the opportunity to shadow our surgical teams.
Undergrad Shadowing
We’re proud to offer limited shadowing opportunities for undergraduate students who are interested in exploring careers in medicine, surgery, and healthcare. At Summit, you’ll observe real patient care, engage with experienced providers, and get a behind-the-scenes look at life in a high-volume surgical practice.
If you’re an undergraduate student interested in shadowing, please use the link below to sign up.
Graduate Student Rotation
We’re excited to welcome you to your upcoming rotation at Summit. You’ll be working closely with one of our surgical teams, a board-certified surgeon, as well as our experienced team of advanced practitioners, surgical staff, and clinic personnel. This rotation is designed to give you a comprehensive, real-world view of a high-functioning neurosurgical practice and our collaborative approach to patient care.
Where to Go & What to Expect
Typical Rotation Schedule
Student rotations follow a structured schedule that may include operating room days, clinic experience, and community-based education events. Most surgeons spend 1-2 days in the OR and 1-2 days in clinic.
-
Typically begin at 7:30 AM. Students are expected to meet in the OR on time, dressed and ready to observe.
-
Clinic days vary based on provider. Please refer to your welcome letter.
-
Held every Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM in the Large Conference Room (3rd floor) at Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point. One of our providers, or a guest provider from the community, presents cases for collaborative discussion. Students are encouraged to attend Rounds not only during their rotation but also after.
Be respectful of all team members, especially our advanced practitioners, who are vital members of the surgical and clinical care team.
If you are asked to assist during surgery, our team will guide you through sterilization protocols and surgeon preferences.
During clinic, please wait for an appropriate time outside of patient visits to ask questions or discuss cases.
Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, including punctuality, dress, and communication.
Professional Expectations
This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from a practicing neurosurgeon in both OR and clinic settings. Please keep the following in mind:
